I recently emptied out my 30, (36x18x12) so now i wanna try to build a stand for it and fill it with diamond head neons. but with said neons i was thinking of getting some sort of centerpiece to go with them, but i don't know of any centerpiece fish that are big enough to be seen in a 30 full of neons and not eat said neons in the process.

Bolivian Rams
Apistogramma

I used to keep Bettas as community fish but no more. It stresses the betta too much. They really are loners.

Everything carnivorous I ever kept will eat neons. In 45 years only the herbivores left them alone.

I think I had best luck with Opaline gouramis, but I haven't kept them in a long time.

what about german blue rams? maybe of the electric blue variety
would a pair of dwarf cichlids be pushing it with neons or

Don't get dwarf cichlids, they will eat them, if they can't fully eat them, they will leave you with half of a floating fish in the tank. My experience with a dwarf pike cichlid and rummynose tetras.

Dwarf pike is not a dwarf cichlid per se. Theyre talkin bout rams and smaller aequidens, nannacara, laetacara, bujurquina...stuff like that. Not crenicichla compressiceps or regani or the like.

Maybe something from the biotodoma genus like cupido or wavrini as a bigger idea?
