The Pacific Coast Cichlid Association is proudly to announce Dr. Ron Coleman, Sacramento, California, an owner of Cichlid Research home page, as our speaker on March 13, 2010.
Dr. Ron Coleman is a biologist by profession. He is an Assistant Professor at California State University, Sacramento and teach courses on Ichthyology (the study of fishes), Fisheries Biology, Animal Behavior, Vertebrate Natural History and other related topics. In his research, he is particularly interested in the behavior and ecology of fishes. Specifically, he is what is called an evolutionary ecologist, which means that he tries to understand behavior in the context of the organism's whole life and in terms of how the behavior evolved by natural selection.
Dr. Ron Coleman interested in cichlids from two angles, both as a scientist and as a hobbyist. On the hobbyist side, it is hard to beat cichlids as entertaining an just plain interesting animals to have around. They are intelligent and curious creatures that come in so many shapes, sizes and colors that he finds it hard to believe that anyone could not be fascinated by them.
Many of these same qualities of cichlids make them fascinating to him as a scientist. The sheer diversity of the family offers countless opportunities to evolutionary biologists like himself.
With "Central American Cichlids" talk, Dr. Ron Coleman will bring us back and explore Central America Cichlids in their natural habitat . Please join us on March 13, 2010, at 4400 StevensCreek Blvd, San Jose, CA 95129. For more information, check out the PCCA web site at WWW.CICHLIDWORLD.COM.
