i am getting closer to finishing this basement i hope to work on the drip system this weekend and work on the filtration soon. i was thinking about linking the two 300 gals together with two 1 1/2" bulkhead fittings and a peace of pipe to join them together. this way i can run one external pump and a large gravity fed sump that can return at two end of the sump into each rubber maid. i know there are advantages and dis advantages to central filtration and the fact that rays are expensive if there was something bad that happened they would all suffer. you get the point.
a penny for your thoughts.
thanks
john

I think rays are less susceptible to contagious diseases than ornamental fish.. shared system is the way to go. The more water volume and turnover rate, the better.

Not to mention, if your rays get something nasty, what good would separated tanks do? You would just have to measure out the salt twice ... well, unless you were using more specific meds..

I'm using a smaller rubbermaid for central filtration and I love it. Here's the link:

thanks i saw this just now and i did read it a while ago when you first wrote it.

does anyone know if you put the bulk head on one of these tubs in a round area of the tub if it will leak? just thinking of the position and those tubs don't have many flat spots

I made a custom acrylic overflow for my rubbermaid and bulkheaded it to the side. It works great in that one flat spot that they have.

Do you have pix of that posted?

john C,

I really like your set-up, it looks really good. I am going to be making something very similar here soon.. I can't wait to see it up and running with some fully detailed pix!! :):D:popcorn:

I did have a 100 gallon rubber maid leak when I put a bulkhead in the curved part, but a crap load of silicone took care of it..... hasn't leaked since.

By the way, your basement looks good, John.
