Central/SA cichlid ID

This cichlid is at my LFS and they're not sure what it is. Sorry for the poor picture quality: cell phone camera. Any ideas?

Looks like it could be a male Hoga, Chancho, barred Midas, Amarillo maybe.

My first thought was amarillo too, either way a really nice fish

EDIT: It's a toss up between an Amarillo and a Barred Midas actually for me.

Likes very much like a barred midas.

Either barred midas hoga chancho or amarillo. Very nice fish. Leaning toward amarillo or chancho

Thanks for the suggestions; I'm going to check those out and go back to look closer at him and see. As you always hear, the pictures don't do him justice. He is very nice. I think I need to have him, whatever he is!

looks like one of those boring barred Amph. type fish that all look the same without much colour and have to be kept alone.
as you can see thats all the fun of fish keeping right there.


all jokes asside, I don't see how people dislike Mayans, but like these. if you get him I hope you have space for him, looks like hes alone at the store.

make sure you havve a big tank as if it turns out to be chancho they get to 16"+ and are the largest amph
