I was just wondering if anyone has ever filled their hob filters with ceramic noodles? I was thinkin bout filling the area behind the cartridge with noodles, share your experiences and opinions plz

I don't see why not, but you might want to put them in some sort of mesh bag otherwise you might have trouble getting the cartridge back in.

Usually best to have mechanical media before the bio media.

Bio Media is far more effective when the water is properly filtered mechanically before it enters the bio media...

When physical waste is allowed to enter the bio media the physical waste plugs the pores that give bio media value.

Allowing physical waste to collect in the bio media also means you either need to A) clean the bio media frequently and in the cleaning of bio media it is inevitable that you will remove some portion of the bacteria colonizing in it, or B) You will allow the physical waste to remain in the bio media and rot making the ammonia/nitrite/nitrate concentrations increase unnecessarily...

In my opinion/experience any "bio only" filter is less effective at bio filtration than a typically set up filter that uses both mechanical & bio media...

Its no different than an Aquaclear setup. The Bio media is after the mechanical media. So the answer is yes, you can use it if you feel the need to do so.

The way the Author of this thread asked his question... he is asking about placing bio rings 'behind' the cartridge which would mean placing the bio rings before the mechanical filtration... resulting in physical waste entering the bio rings before it enters the mechanical media... thus making utilizing the bio rings as mechanical filtration causing the situation/s I described above...
