Just wondering, how long can i use my ceramic rings? or do they have to be replaced regularly? How do you know if they are clogged up?

I'm currently preparing a tank for cories, planning to reuse old ceramic rings, i boiled them for a few minutes, how do i know if these ceramic rings are still ok? also does ceramic ring change waters ph? I just experienced a ph crash in 1 of my tank. when i moved the fish to another tank, I cleaned all the media in the filter which consist of foams matala mats and ceramic rings, and i change 70% water, I retested the water and it was still at 4. our tapwater is at 7.5, even after leaving it overnight it would stay at 7.5 , but our water is quite soft i think 2-3 dkh?

thanks.

thanks.

i have been using mine almost a year now. still no problems..knock on wood.

You never replace bio media.... You can rinse them out in tank water but never change. they hold your BB.

No need to replace them unless they started disintegrating or something. I wouldn't have done anything but rinse them in tank water before reusing them, and that's just to get any excess grime off of them. By boiling them, you killed all the bacteria so they will have to cycle again from the beginning.

thanks :) planning to add some used sponge filter from my other tanks to reseed the ceramic rings :D I'll be keeping cories only in my tank :D

Stop lying to him!

You need to change bio media regularly every couple of hundred years.

DUH!

Cheaper brands of ceramic noodles will start disintegrating after about a year, as long as they aren't crumbling or anything you can reuse them.
