I was wanting to add more biological filtration with the addition of ceramic rings in my sump. the only problem is my sump has two sides. Both sides (separated by sponge) have a heater in them. Can i put bags of ceramic rings right on top of the heaters? Also, which side would be better to place the media? the side to the Left of the sponge (the first chamber) or the side with the pump (right side)? Thanks

The heaters need water circulation. Anything touching the heater would make a hot spot on the heater itself. Do not place anything directly on them or against them. Place the rings furthest away from the sponge media. The rings do not filter the water. The dirty water would foul the rings. This way the bacteria in them can react with just water. This would be the final stage before returning to the tank.
