in your opinion, what level is the best area to put you ceramic rings in a canister filter bottom, middle, or top? ihave 4 different brands of canister filters and each one is placed in a different area (filter compartment) according to their individual instruction booklets. from my experience, the one that seem to work the best in the bottom placement.

i have three baskets...

i would put the bio media in second or third never first.bottom=first

a crap load of floss in the first=cleanest water possible to hit the bio media and other baskets

yeah that makes sense, but when it's time to clean the floss, won't you disturb the BB to get to the floss? thats mainly why i keep the rings on the bottom. that way i can clean the floss, change the AC, and complete all other maintenance with out losing to much BB. then again my XP3 rings are in the middle and floss on the bottom, and the water is alot more polished then my eheim.

you worry to much.
the bio things are in baskets, juss take out the basket and swush it in a bucket of water, juss to get the junk off.besides you wont be killing alot of bacteria.

Howdy,

Although they also possess biofiltration activity, ceramic rings are considered mechanical filtration and, thus, should be the first media the water hits in your camister when it comes from your tank. For Eheims that means bottom of the canister.
