I know that their is no such things as too much bio media but I was wondering how many lbs of ceramic rings for how many gals??

depends on your bioload. how much waste do your fish produce.

test your water parameter. As long as

Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate > 0

you have sufficient bio media for your current stock.

That would be the Holy Grail of fish keeping, if you could get your bio media to rid the tank of nitrates.
Just busting your ceramic rings:D
Pretty sure you didn`t mean to add nitrates to your list.

As far as how much bio specific media you need for a healthy tank, pretty much depends on many things.
Type of filter, number of fish, size of tank, cleaning schedule, yadda-yadda.
Is this for a tank that is not yet running?
Are you trying to get all your materials in hand before setting up a new tank?
I question your statement, "I know that their is no such things as too much bio media ".
You can have an excess.
It won`t hurt anything, but there is a point where the amount of bio media is unproductive.
You might be surprised at the number of tanks that have no bio media and are just as healthy as ones with a truck load.
No set rule for amount of media per fish.
All you can do is get some, put it in your filter and check your water.
If your tank can process 3-5ppm of ammonia down to zero in a 18-24 hr. period you have plenty.
Keep in mind, the bacteria will set up shop all over your system, not just in media.

Which is why I did the fishless cycling before adding my substrate/deco. To ensure most of them set up shop in my media

Funny, I took the other road.
Loaded the tank with all the decor, etc., and circulated the water without media in my filters.
My thoughts were, I`m going to muck around with my filters allot more than being elbow deep in the tank.
What I mean is, I would have a bigger chance of damaging the bio feeders in my filter than doing them harm in the tank.
Not saying one way is better than the other, just offering a different view.

Yes I agree. there is no right or wrong answer, just a matter of preference. For me, because I gravel-vac daily, I think the media would be a much more safer place. LOL!

Also check with the maker of your system as toi what there guidelines are.

Depends on a lot of factors, flow rate over what media you have is an important consideration, as is what the tank's decorated with. A completely bare tank with no substrate, plants or decorations will depend entirely on the bacteria in its filters for processing waste.

If a tank was well stocked and relatively bare, I'd probably want about 1 litre of bio media and 1 litre of sponges per 200 litres of water.
