I've never owned an Eheim before. I purchased one "gently used" off of Ebay -- came with everything but the tubing and intank equipment. I kept in "dry dock" a number of months until I was able to save for and purchase an 8' acrylic aquarium. That happened just a short time ago. I ordered it from A.G.E. out of Dallas. Set it up the other day. Looks great!

There was no instruction manual with the filter. I set up the Eheim 2080. Water filled the unit once it was primed. I turned it on and it "grinded" and halted altogether. The ceramic shaft shattered. Fortunately, I had ordered a spare. I replaced it and turned it back on. The same thing happened. I'm super bummed. I guess I need someone who really knows something about these filters to take a look and see if there's something that I'm doing wrong. I'm at a loss on what to do otherwise. Frustrated.

If you snapped two shafts it could be the impeller is bad or the rubber nibs that hold the shaft in place are worn or missing. I lost the shaft on an old eheim of mine because the impeller failed nut the unit was almost 20 years old.
