Cetopsis Candiru VS Cetopsis Coecutiens

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Neither are fish that I have kept and to be honest I have never seen c.candiru for sale.
No real knowledge on the differences other than my belief that c.coecutiens is much more blue in colour.
Happy for others with more experience to chip in.

Thanks tlindsey and Fishman Dave for the respond. Yes I also believe it differ on colour a bit. What I read, they way they eat is different also. C. Coecutiens eat, release and come back to eat while C. Candiru will make a hole in prey body and go into the body

C. candiru is longer, more cyindrical. C. coecutiens is more spindle-shaped with a higher dorsal fin and a more deeply forked tail than C. candiru.
There have been a lot of misidentifications of C. candiru in the past but currently the photos on Planet Catfish are accurate.
