Does anyone keep this species? I saw a few babies at the LFS labeled as "Red Dolphin" but most info I found in the web refers to them as Blue Dolphin or Blue Shark.

I notice these are also named as Catfish although I'm not sure if they are indeed a Catfish.

Looks like this is a real Monster Fish in terms of predatory behavior.

Anyone has experience with them?

Cetopsis coecutiens is indeed a catfish. Grows to about a foot plus , needs quite abit of room to swim. Quite peaceful when small , but the big ones have a nasty reputation of drilling holes in larger fish. Prefers some current in the tank as well.

The LFS had no idea what to with them so they gave them to me for free. I agreed with them that I will do my best to keep them alive and if they make it I will pay what it cost to them. I asked at least two month of trial.

I placed them today in a 16gal hospital tank (bare bottom) that I keep with low light (indirect sunlight) with a few shadow loving plants (Cryptocoryne sp, Anubias sp). There's some mulm and algae in the glass as well as a few Ghost Shrimps. I got eight specimens measuring barely 1.5 inches (4 cm). They look in terrible conditions.

After a while one that I thought was dying and on its sides managed to put itself in "normal" position. Four of the specimens were already feeding from the algae in the glass, taking cover in the internal filter housing.

I promise picks for tomorrow... Let's see where this leads.

I doubt my specimens are healthy. Two already died within 24 hours of me getting them; the others are now in a soft/acidic tank with small fish they could go after if they want but I don't see them active at all.

I figure I should expect them to die.

A Picture so we can i.d might help.

I'll do my best to grab a good picture. The water in the tank I placed them is cloudy yet after loosing another specimen I witnessed today (after a water change) one of them swimming all around (a la "crazy Khuli Loach).
