CFL/LED Comparison

Hello guys, I'm extremely new here and have a question.

I just bought a house with a ~2,500 gallon cistern that I plan on re-purposing into an aquarium.

But before I start the fun stuff, I'm just really curious on what the difference between LED and CFL are.

Besides energy efficiency, what's the benefit /disadvantages?

Is there a lumen to gallon ratio that I should know about?

I really want to change over to LED but I don't want to hurt any of my fish.

If you intend to have a tank with plants, the advantage to LEDs is you never have to change out lamps. CFL, T8 or T5 fluorescent fixtures will require regular lamp changes to maintain proper color/temp, PUR/PAR output. Yearly at a minimum.
