I got a chaca chaca shipped to me today, I think it may be a bankanensis as it's very dark. Only a couple of inches, I've wanted one since I was a kid, so I'm happy with it :)

But after hearing about this PH lowring and fish dying if they eat it's slime coat etc, it's now alone in a 15 gallon tub.

How true is this drastic, lethal PH lowering? Has anyone successfully kept one with other fish without this happening?

Thanks,
RS

I have a chaca bakaensis too. I have had feeders in the tank for weeks with out any affects. When his isn't buried in the sand, I have seen some rosies pick on him and they are still alive. I also have 3 chocolate cichlids in with him, and haven't noticed any ill affects with them.

So I don't really believe a whole lot in the fish dieing by being in the same tank. Have never tested the PH though to see if it does lower it or not.

drift wood will lower your ph

No problem, and if feeders are hard to come by in spain, it took some time but I was able to get my guy to eat some small pieces of smelt, but he prefers feeders.

I forgot to mention, he actually ate 10 minutes out of the bag, frozen bloodworms.

I then moved him to a tub, and he's eaten bloodworms in there too :D I am quite surprised, they have a reputation as being tricky to feed. I moved him out as he was delivered along with a 9 inch aro, I didn't want the aro to eat him, or for him to lower that tank's PH.

HOw big is yours? 5 or 6 inches if I recall? Do you have a pic?
