chaca chaca

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I never kept them but I was going to get a few so I did some research on them. They are very inactive and are sit and wait predators. They like to burry themselfs in the sand and when prey swims overhead they use their huge mouth to create suction and swallow it. They arent too hard to keep alone, but with other fish there can be a few problems. They do have huge mouths so you have to choose tankmates that cant fit in it. Also they have been know to cause sudden drops in the pH of the water. The Chaca Chaca seems to be able to handle this, but tankmates may not be able to and I have heard of fish being lost because of this. An easy solution to this is frequent water changes and a larger tank as this will lessen the severity of the pH drops.

They are pretty cool cats though. Young and old fish alike will eat live bloodworms, ghost shrimp and feeders (guppies, minnows and small goldfish with ease).
Do not put with with fishes that are fin nippers or overly active. They are to mellow to be put in a boisterous tank.

VERY Inactive. Great Oddball, but don't expect much out of them.

I've had 3.... I LOVED them... great oddball... they LOVE to bury themselves... lazy but eat about anything... AWESOME to watch eat... they just engulf the food.....

I am about to get more to.....

actually one of the coolest fish on earth! I have been looking to buy a large one for a few months now! I had one last year, so cool there mouth is huge like a frog and can swallow anything that can fit in it! I know they are not extremely hardy though from my experience with them. hoping to have better luck with my next one! good luck and post some pics people of chaca chaca cats!
