hey guys, i picked up a 4" Chaca chaca yesterday, he's in a tub with an inch of sand and some leaf litter. I put in a couple of gups and a zebra danio for company, but i've been reading that the best feeders for 'em are cichlid fry.
Will he be alright in the tub for a couple of days till i manage to get a 2x1x1 for him?
I read somewhere that sand is rough on their skin, should i remove it and make it bare bottomed?

any other housing requirements that i need to know about these guys?

Sand is fine. He will eat any fish that fits in his mouth. Mine didnt eat for two weeks when i got him.
make sure he has a lot of hiding places.

Nice pick-up. The sand should be fine with him. Awesome fish just don't expect much activity from him. They just lay there waiting for a tasty fish to go buy. As for feeders goldfish are probably the best just coax them to the bottom with some sinking food and WALA! Dinner is served for your Chaca. Guppies, rosyreds and guppies don't seem to venture down to the substrate so I found my Chaca doesn't even notice them. That's probably why cichlid fry was suggested. They stay toward the bottom makin them easy pickin's for a Chaca.

Awesome pick up, I have just started looking for some of these guys, where'd ya get him?

Got any pics? I'm jealous :D

He's still in the tub :) I think a BB tank would be better coz a guy told me their skin is very delicate, ah well, easier to see him too.
I'm getting some Tilapia fry soon. so hopefully he'll eat. Very sluggish fish, never moves, even when i pick him up.

Blurock, these guys are native around here, so getting him was a breeze, just told my Native supplier to get 'em for me. I keep a lotta Native fish anyhow.

A few pics from my cell, really bad but whatever -
