If all goes well with the import, i'll have some of these in my tanks soon.

If you have some, please post pictures of yours, size and age.

Thanks :)

Just looked them up as I'm not familiar with them. They look really nice, can't wate to see them. Are you bringing them in from the Netherlands? I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a couple of those either.

They have been pretty rare the last decades in the hobby. Actually, these will be coming all the way from Sir. Jeff Rapps :)

Indeed they can mature into some very nice looking, and big fish!

Would love to see pictures of some in a less commercial setup.

Bump for more pictures of this long forgotten, rare, amazing american cichlid.

I bought 4 of these from Rapps. One died the day after I got them for no apparent reason. Jeff said they were eating pellets but so far mine just chew them for a minute or two and spit them out. They do the same thing with bloodworms. At this point I'm nervous that I'm going to end up losing them. I realize they're filter feeders, but what exactly do they filter feed on? And does it have to be small? If so, it looks like they may require a species-only tank and lots of small food. *shrug*

They swim around with their mouths open, constantly sucking in water, but they spit out even the smallest pieces of food. It's a bit frustrating. I think eventually I'll get them into a 90 or 125 by themselves and just feed them a ton of frozen BBS or krill. I assume they'll like that. The article I read on cichlidae.com said most people had luck with frozen foods. I may be able to chop up bloodworms really small too.
