Chance of survival of fry?

So I was in Petsmart tonight. Now I have a rule that I never buy livestock from the big chain stores unless they have a rare fish I just couldn't pass up (as long as it looks to be in very good condition). Well I noticed their convict tank had a pair guarding fry. So I asked how often that happened as I never saw it before. I know convicts breed prolifically, but they are in small tanks with many other fish, so I likely never saw it because they never have made it long enough. Well the girl told me they give them away for free. It's 5 minutes until close and I am saying, "Bag them up!" LOL

I only had time to bag up about a dozen before they closed up (I am thinking of heading back in the morning for the rest! LOL). They are not even free swimming yet. Still have the little yolk sack anchoring them down to the bottom. Maybe 1-3 days away from free swimming, I think. Anyways, I am acclimating them very slowly to my 20 gallon with dime sized angels in it. They will be in a breeder basket that is anchored to the side. The mesh is definitely small enough, so I don't have to worry about escape. The tank has been established for almost a year now with no fluxes in water chemistry. The angels are on a twice weekly water change schedule. I know convicts are very hardy. What is the likelihood they will survive? For those who breed convicts, what % die off do you normally see?

Well tomorrow is the only day I have off for the next week. I will feed them right before I leave, as soon as I get home and right before bed on workdays. Tomorrow I will try to feed them 4-5 times.

Newly hatched fry will often graze on the algae that is on the sides of the tank wall, in the gravel or sponge filter. You can provide food as long as it's the right type...fry food. I use a blend that is like baby powder when dry. Put a tiny amount in a turkey baster, add water, shake and squirt it into the fry cloud. Very small amount will go a long way. Make sure that you do a daily water change on the fry tank to keep the water clean.
