So I have a male midas/RD (?) who is definitely getting his pad ready for a mate, trouble is he has not been friendly to any tankmates and the only one who can hang with him is a 10" common pleco. I saw a beautiful female RD at my LFS and wanted to ask the experienced (if you don't have any in this, please do not respond) owners/past owners what their opinion was. I have a tank that is a little smaller than ideal, but it's all that fits with our current living/family situation. 65g with only the Pleco. I know hat if he doesn't like her, he will probably beat her up, but what are the chances? She is on sale for $20 right now and is about 2" shorter than him (he is 8-9") He is 10 months or so old. Very friendly with me (of course, I feed him!) but gets protective of the holes he digs out. Ask any questions to better paint the picture and thanks for the input.

i think that in a larger tank you could get it to work by first introducing her with a divider between, but really in that size tank i doubt that he will accept a mate and even if he does that would be way to high of a bioload in that size tank, frankly it is already fully stocked with just your male and the pleco which both still have some growing to do

That's kinda what I was thinking but my wife wanted to get some feedback. If it aint broke, don't fix it right?

In a 65g the Devil will probably just assume the whole floorplan is his territory. He probably looks gigantic in it right now lol.

lol yeah exactly, i always have a tendency to mess with my stocklist when everything is peaceful and then end of having a huge die off when all the fish turn on each other because of the new comers, with cichlids its usually best to just leave things alone if they are working especially if you dont have a huge tank to play around with

Thanks, sometimes a little peer to peer reason is all I need to get back on track, besides, he is happy (or at least seems it) right now:
