Change of Location for the Stingray Symposiium

The lack of commitment on the part of the many hobbyists who keep freshwater stingrays is extremely disappointing. I mistakenly believed that people who are willing to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on stingrays would be excited to spend 3 days listening and talking to the world’s leading experts on these fish, so they could provide proper care for their specimens. I was wrong. Because of the limited number of registrations, the International Symposium on Freshwater Stingray Biology will now take place at the Shedd Aquarium, on August 7th and 8th. Registration is still limited to 50 people, but at this time there are only about 15 spots left. As noted earlier, the auction, raffle and banquet dinner have been cancelled. I will be contacting those people who have already registered with additional details. Those fortunate people will have an incredible experience.

Hotel information.

Here’s the new hotel info: we have a special rate of $139/day at the Downtown Holiday Inn and Suites on Harrison Avenue, which is about one mile from the Shedd. The hotel phone number is 312-957-9100, and ask for the Stingray Symposium rate. There is a shuttle bus from the airport, check with the hotel for that information. We have 15 rooms blocked for the Symposium at this time, but additional rooms can be added. If the person at registration isn’t familiar with the rate, ask for Jeanette O’Toole.
 
My husband and I booked the Hilton near the Shedd the other day after we heard about the changes to the Symposium on this site. Is anything going on at the Holiday Inn besides a special rate that we should change our reservations to them or is everything just at the Shedd. We're new to the forum and I'm just getting use to the lay of the land.

There is nothing going on at the hotel all activities will be held at the Shedd. It would be nice for all of us to try and stay at the same hotel for after hours getting to know MFK's.

I was able to switch our reservations. This is really a good rate at the Holiday Inn. We will be arriving late Wednesday evening and I am looking forward to my husband meeting other stingray geeks. I'll be the one with the glazed-over expression (since I know nothing about stingrays and such but will try my darnest to pay attention) trying to figure out if I will be missed much if I go shopping one afternoon. Just having the entire event now at the Shedd will be an experience in itself.
