I'm considering a change of plan for my 272 litre 'L' shaped tank. I have decided against the idea of having a pair as I'm not sure if i can properly deal with the fry at the moment. Do you think two males of different species (either; Cichlasoma carpinte (texas), Aequidens rivulatus (green terror), Nandopsis octofasciatum (jack dempsey) or Nandopsis tetracanthus (cuban)) would work long term? Also possibly with a third smaller male like a firemouth or something to take some of the agro!? Also should i add any dither fish or scavengers?
Thank you very much for any advice you may be able to give?
Liam.

if I remember correctly from high school there is 4 liters in a gallon. if thats right you have about a 70 gallon tank. I would stay away from a cuban unless thats all you want. you could do a JD and a firemouth, or a GT and FM. even a texas and a FM. but i would stay away from any 12" fish in that small of a tank. JD and FM "I think" would be your best bet.

how about a texas and a jack dempsey??
I'm thinking that because the tank is 'L' shaped there will be a break in the line of sight?
With a lot of cover and some dithers do you think it'll work!?

how big was this tank again? I wouldn't put a male dempsey and a male texas in anything smaller than a 75 and imo that would still be pushing it a bit once the fish reach adult size. :)

Its about 72 US gallons, 272 litres. I thought that if they had grown up together they'd probably be ok as adults?

eh, not necessarily. males will eventually develop their male attitude and need their own territory. you may be able to give them enough space but I'd be cautious about having 2 large growing males in that size of tank. :)

So if not the JD and the texas, how about the texas and a smaller pair that could provide the texas with fry to eat!!! any suggestions?
