Well after measuring my supposed 33 gallon again, i found out it is actually a 30 gallon, dimensions are 30x12.5x18. So after consideration, im going to skip on the SA planted tank idea. I figured i will wait and do a 55 gallon planted just so theres more room. I feel this tank would be better suited for some shell dwellers and possibly a small calvus or 2. I was thinking of ordering about 5-6 multis, about 30-35 shells then a pile of small riverstones up the side of the tank. Then my lfs has some smaller calvus for a good price and i could raise them out and throw them in my friends 72 gallon. I think it should work out but let me know what you think.

I think it sounds pretty awesome. The Altolamps may slow down the shellie colonization of your tank through predation, but enough will survive with that many shells.

yeah thats what my plan was. I didnt want to get overun with fry and i knew the alto's would help out perfectly. lol the circle of life in your own home haha

also the altos will be less then 3 inches so it will be a while untill they out grow the tank. I was gonna do a foot of the tank covered in shells then a 6in gap then a foot of rocks piled up with plenty of crevices. Will that work out? and should i let the calvus get settled in the rocks the add the shell dwellers?

It should work. I tried doing multis and comps in a 20 long once... the comps got pwn'ed by the multis. Not hurt, just constantly getting nipped on. With the longer tank, you should be better than what I had with the scaping you described.
