So I plan on upgrading to a 180 later but that is in the future.

I have a 75 gal. with a messy Red Eared Slider. I have a Fluval 404 right now and it does great on bio filtration but I still have a lot of debris floating. I can get a custom sump for cheap so I'm thinking about switching to that. I don't want to spend a lot of money on it since I really want a 180 anyway.

I was thinking about using the Eheim hobby pump 1250 a sump pump. This could later be used for UV on the 180 that i have planed out once i have room and money for it. My question is will this be enough flow? I think at 4' of head the pump will be less GPH then my fluval.

But if I design the sump with filter socks I will have zero bypass unless the sock is clogged unlike the fluval which has a lot of bypass? So is less flow ok with less bypass?

Also this means i need to do an overflow without drilling, but i think i can hadle that given all the info the site.

go get a internal filter it does a good job with debris & etc. jebo filters are cheap and work really well. i have 2 internal from jebo rated for 400gph as a extra and keeps the water crystal crisp clear like dam im thirsty i wanna drink it its so clear, clear... lol

I just started working at Tap plastic so i can build a sump for cheap and I've never had one before so i was thinking i could try it out and work the bugs out before the 180ish. Just need to know if by using filter socks with zero bypass if lower flow would still be ok.

The tank is a 75 gal. with a 7.5" Red Eared Slider, so less stuff in the tank for her to mess with the better. Plus i need to upgrade as it is so taking up more room is not ideal.
