Hi, replaced 2/3 of the filtermedia in my external canisterfilter today.
It has 3 compartments, the first compartment was rinsed a couple of times in the dirty canisterwater.
Compartment 2 and 3 had the filtermedia replaced so its fresh and unused.
The aquarium(540L) have been in use for ~2 years, the filter is a fluval 403.

Roughly how long would it take for the filter to start working at 100% ?

Regards.

What type of media did you replace? was it mechanical bio or chemical? You never need to change your bio that that's what keeps your cycle running. It can be cleaned but shouldn't be replaced. the other shouldn't affect your tanks cycle but just a little if any.

Changed coarse sponge to fine sponge, need to find out firsthand what difference it is for a comming diy filterbuild.
The first compartment of the filter have cycled coarse sponge and compartment 2 and 3 have new fine sponge.
~1litre of the old filtermedia is reused in a temporary internal filter powered by an aquaclear50, will be used for a minimum of 3weeks.
