hi all,
over the last 6 weeks or so i have started to give my savannah monitor almost exclusively insects, mostly grasshoppers and caterpillars (if i spelled that right) mealworms, etc. Problem is the only live insects i can get around here are crickets (not very nutritious) and the mealworms. for the grasshoppers and caterpillars i have to get the canned stuff. anyway, one of the reasons i switched from mice in the first place was people on here screaming at me over the fact that the mice were too tough to digest...so why is he pooping only once every couple of weeks now, as opposed to once every 5-7 days or so like he did when i had him on the mice. i'm not pissed or anything, i want to be doing the right thing for him, but is this normal? also, he is a couple months shy of two years old, and just about 26 inches...is this good growth? just curious, want to make sure he is okay. thanks in advance for advice.

Same here. My monitor doesnt do to the bathroom to much ither. I don't see a problem with it tho. My snake hold it in for weeks at a time to. Its something some reptiles just do. I feed my monitor super worms, horn worms and crickets. All are gut loaded before being fed to my Steve. The growth seems to be fine. Remeber, when given a high protein, high fat diet, monitors grow very fast and its unhealthy.

I don't believe that any monitor should be fed rodents. To be honest, people are just taking the cheap, ignorant way out.
