How many people have successfully converted their grown Asian Arowana into eating pellets? I have a Green Arowana around 40cms who will only eat live foods (mealworms/crickets/woodies).

I tried starving him but everytime I do so, he starts attacking his tankmates so I'm gonna need to find a spare tank to seperate him to try again.

My concern is if I seperate him, train him onto pellets and then put him back in the tank with his tankmates, will be become aggressive to them because he is no longer use to them?

I would prefer to feed him live foods to keep him in a community tank.

Tank: 6x2x2
Tank mates: 6 King Kongs & 4 Gold Severums - all about 9 -12cms
Bottom tank mates: clown loaches

Thanks.

separate his tankmates?

Just starve him and put something in for your tank mates to hide in.
That or remove the tank mates.
It will take at least 1 week worth of starving it at its size.
If you want to speed up the process, soak the pellets in garlic/beef heart juices.

I am going to seperate the other fishes instead of the green. Have one 3 footer up and running already and will soon setup another 3 footer for the fishes as soon as I find a spare heater and filter.

I always hear people trying to convert their large asians into eating pellets at a large size but how many people have actually been successful?

Just want an idea because it is a pain in the behind trying to setup this up.

tekk - so do you crush garlic juice and soak the pellets in them? Not sure if the beefheart one will work because it doesnt eat anything but mealworms and crickets, the taste is too different.

My RTG about the same size hasn't eaten anything for 2 weeks because i am only offering it pellets.
I'm not sure if it sneaks the odd few while I'm not looking because it sniffs them and cruses on the top while they're floating.
I have the opinion it can die before i feed it live food again. I'm sure it won't but i am determined to get it on pellets.
Prior it had the same menu as yours.
I'd be interested in the garlic method as well.

garlic, is he even takin a bite of the pellets? i mean is he just passin them or takin it then spit it back out?

XB Aro - If you are asking me, my arow doesnt even looks at the pellets. I am not wanting to try this starving method if there is a good chance my aro will die.

My other worry is that once I reintroduced the fishes back in with him, he will start attacking them because he is no longer use to having them around.

I'm not a one tank, one fish person!

Taking them in and spits them out, i even think it eats the odd one but i haven't seen it.
It arches its back and skims the surface while they're floating.
