I have a brackish 55 gal that has gravel in it now, I have read over the best ways to make the transition between the 2 and have it mapped out. Just wondering what ya'll think is better off for my fish. I have a violet goby-12 in.
A toadfish-9 in and a snowflake eel about 16in.
Lemme know if i should switch to sand or leave it as gravel.

I will be watching this thread closely. I also want to switch my brackish tank to sand rather than gravel. Do you need live sand?

snowflake eels are strictly SW...

Sand is good... no live sand or else if you don't know how to handel it, it could mess the ph up...

Snowflakes are marine huh? that's awesome- thanks for letting me know - I'll go inform mine that he needs to find a new home. been in there almost a year so he's not gonna be happy. OH wait - maybe he's marketed as a snowflake and thats the most common name so thats why i used it. - it's a gymnothorax tile - but thanks again

sorry - weird mood today, a lot goin on. thanks for input.

Oh, a tile, those are brackish... don't worry...

Going to try to pick up some black sand in Dallas this weekend. Going to start the swap on Monday hopefully. Unless i get reasons not too. Anyone?

black sand always looks good!!! Just remember to clean it out several times!

Aragonite sand will keep your pH steady, around 8. this is what you want. Sand deeper than 1", will have to be stirred (every inch of it) weekly, to prevent anerobic (toxic) pockets of air from forming, which your fish may disturb & poison the tank. PITA in a tank the size of 55g, IMO. So either keep it to 1", or use crushed coral, which can be easily cleaned with a Python.
