i was wondering could i change out the gravel in my tank with new gravel with the fish still in it with out causing harm? i have black gravel in the tank now that im tried of and want to replace it with flourite since my plants not really growing in my tank right now, i have 2 GT, 2 JD and a BGK in the tank.

If you have other tanks, get your fishs in them and then proceed.

Otherwise, this will probably be hard and complex.

ya i dont think i could move them to another tank the one i want to change is a 100gal and i do have a 50gal but the GT may try to kill the much smaller fish in the 50. could i piece mule it out by doing sections like doing only half wait awhile and do the other half when the water parameters are all fine?

Over the many years I have changed my gravel 3 times with all my fish in the aquarium swimming around and all turned out fine. I have two canister filters with lots of good bacteria so my tank did not go though another recycle phase. If you do not have canister filters with enough bacteria then your aquarium could go though another recycle period. If that is the case then remove it slowly like 1/4 to 1/3 of the gravel at a time and wait at least a month in between. I have read it is best to remove it slowly anyway because even with a canister filter if you have a lot of fish or hugh fish it can still cause an aquarium to recycle.
