I currently have a 3" oscar and a 1.5" firemouth. I was originally going to put the firemouth in a separate tank and buy a convict and gold sev to go with it, but I've changed my mind.

Does anyone think having 1 oscar, 2 firemouth and 2 convicts in a 55gal is overkill as long as the oscar doesn't exceed 5 or 6"? I plan on getting the oscar it's own 75 when it reaches about that size.

Gonna get some dithers too, possibly some plants since the oscar can't really uproot them at his size. Just wondering cause if no one says it's overkill tonight I'm going to get the fish before 9 pm here on the east coast.

No it isn't overkill, but if you give your Oscars good water quality and food, they can grow from 3 to 6 inch in less 2 months. So you will need your 75 very soon.

once the oscar reaches about 8 inches youll be overstocked, have the 75 for him by then. as for the other fish, id just get 1 convict 1 firemouth 1 sev then get some larger bodied tetras for the 55 long term! ( LOVE my firemouth and sev! never though id own a sev tell a few months ago and im deff happy with mine! as for the firemouth i got 2 diff types, 1 T meeki and 1 T aureus and both get along )
