changing oscars food, help please

I am trying to switch my oscars food over to medium floating pellets because with the small pellets I have to feed him a lot more, and I feel a lot gets wasted with sinking pellets.

But the problem is, he won't come up to the top of the tank to even touch them. Just stays in the middle and at the bottom swimming around waiting for me to feed him when the food is in there.

What would be the best way to get him to start coming to the top for food, since I have been trying for a few days and still won't touch the top food. :/ It's the same type of food that he gobbles up every day, just a larger size and so it shouldn't be anything to do with it being a different brand/type/etc.

It will eat them when it gets hungry enough so don't worry.

Try soaking a few in tank water, so they sink, after it gets used to the change in size and taste/odor, it might start going to the top for the pellets.

Last night I fed him the floating pellets last night and he didn't touch them at all. But then after I had turned the lights out, I noticed after a little while him going to the top of the tank and grabbing them, spitting them out and then going after them again.

He's just a picky eater I think, I tried giving him a worm today and he wouldn't even touch it and then finally he noticed my knife going after it and grabbed it up.
