I will give you a breakdown of what is going on. 180 gallon, Delray 240 sump with a Genx pcv 40 on it. Marienland c 530. I bought a motoro ray this week and I read that they like sand. so I decided to scoop up all the gravel and keep everything running. Heaters, pump and turned off the UV sanitizer

The tank has a 7 inch arwana, pleco and ray. The water is pretty hazy right now and there is no substrate. Tomorrow I figured that I would wash the sand out and lower it in with a PVC pipe. Is the haziness hurting the fish? I also bought $40 dollars worth of tetra safe start to add when the sand goes in.

I will leave the UV sanitizer off for a week till things settle in. Am I missing anything?

I did this before, used a large, long handled net for the gravel.

i just used a thick hose to siphon out my old gravel into buckets with water... was quicker and easier than scooping it out.... and then pre-rinsed the sand well in buckets outside with a hose, letting the buckets overflow whilst stirring the sand up.... then poured it straight into the tank... had almost no haze atall as i rinsed it well...

The haze / dust can be bad for filter motors / impellors (fine particles scratching the impellor magnets, so try and wash the sand really well before you dump it in the tank... also if you spend the extra time rinsing the sand, youll have a clear tank from the word go and not have to wait ;)
