I have a 20 gallon tank which sits on the bottom of my 55 gallon tank. Here's my problem, when i stick the water pump into my 20 gallon tank b/c it sits only a few inches from the floor, the pump doesn't get suction. Any suggestions?

siphoning works through gravity. the place you're taking the water from must be higher than where you're moving the water. otherwise get a python and attach it to the sink.

you mean the small tank is below the 55? The previous guy is right, siphons suck at sucking water uphill.

Put a hose on a pump or powerhead but you need to clean your substrate. Get an undergravel filter and that will help a little.

The guy didn't ask about syphoning, he asked about a pump problem.

...And when he already has a pump, telling him to get a pump and hose isn't going to help. He already has that part figured out.

Does the pump make a sound like it is trying to work? Take the pump apart to check for a clog. While it is apart, clean the impeller and housing.
