Hello,

mybe some People from Russia or the far east are part of this forum, so i might be lucky with some more Information.

When looking for information about channa argus, sometimes the subspecies c. argus warpachowskyi comes up, which seems to be the really harcore cold resistant subspecies, which is also capable of reaching bigger sizes than the argus we know.

Is there some truth to that? This might be the reason why there are tales of argus which reached 1.5meters in lenght, which, considering the quite massive built compared to other sneakhead, could very well mean that channa argus warpachowskyi is the heaviest channa out there.

Greetings

I've also heard about argus getting up to 1.5m+ from the locals who sell it at the wet markets. They heaviest they said have been around 100-120lbs which is absolutely mental. cows and other livestock stay away from the waters they inhabit supposedly. Just echoing what I've heard. I've only seen argus about 1 to 1.2m long and they were absolutely huge already.

Which country was that? Did you get a chance to take any pictures?

120lbs would put anny other sneakehead really really way behind and pretty any other "true" predator (so something with teeth) as well!

Ya know, as much as I dream of building an outdoor "natural pool" to put an arapaima in it, an Argus sounds much more plausible, mostly because it'll cost me half the price to not have to heat water...

Only problem is, unlike the Pima, I doubt I'd be allowed to swim with it xD

You can get argus in Belgien?
Fishes are not regulated in Belgium, unless they are under a CITES regulation.
We can therefore get anything we like!

I dunno man, you are either dealing with teeth or a battering ram lol I wouldn't swim with either

I would say the Arapaima is a kid's dream, but I had no idea of it's existence. :P
I like to think I'm still a bit of a kid, so I can keep dreaming. ^_^

I would like to still be able to use the pool I'd build, though, so Pima's more doable, there's very little chance he tries to kill me, so at least I could try to go for it day after day. ;)

Argus or Micropeltes on the other hand... :P
