Does anyone know where to buy Channa Argus ( Northern Snakehead) in Canada. One of the few types I haven't tried but have always wanted to. Thanks

who cares

Generally most people on this board care; even if they wish to possess them many here are conservationists and support protective laws of this nature.

Sadly these laws are due to the actions of certain people who don't seem to understand the consequences or don't care. Some people think it's cool to release these into the wild so they can "catch" them, some because they can't keep them any longer, some because they just don't care.

So in effect it's probably a good idea to care. You never know who doesn't care and you might lose the things you love because of it. I'd hate to imagine my favorite trout hole gone because someone didn't care about disposing of the snakeheads.

your post is useless and it's users with that kind of attitude that give mfk a bad name. either say something productive and on topic, or say nothing at all. I wonder how many of your 152 posts are along the same lines as this....

anyways, yes, northern SH are illegal here in Canada because they could become an invasive species and have already been caught in Lake Huron.

They aren't illegal in Canada, Ontario (all species), Saskatchewan (as of 2011 or so) but thats it to the best of my knowledge. We are allowed all types in the Maritimes. I know British Columbia imports Argus for the Asian Live Food fish trade but I don't know where would be a good place to get one or if they would ship them. Don't get me wrong I care very greatly about the health of our natural environment, I would never release any pet into the wild ever even if it was something that I knew wouldn't survive our winters. With that said there are a ton of potential invasive species available at pet stores, plant nurseries ect., off the top of my head Norway Maple (class one invasive in many places), Koi, Goldfish, goutweed, Honeysuckle, Fanwort, Himalayan Balsam ect.The key is responsible ownership, of course with that said I would never keep any species that I am not permitted by law to do so. I have kept many different species of Snakehead in the past and I really want to try something new. I haven't tried Argus or the Blotched Snakehead so I am definitly interested in those two if there is any availability at all.

The tropicals may not be banned but northern snakeheads definately are
