Hi all, I am looking some advice. I have got x4 of this type of channa on the way. (i am picking them up on my next trip to cornwall (first weekend in feb).

i have been told that all 4 have been together for sometime now and all are around 8inc. my set up is a 8x2x2 @79F with a PH7 running with a fx5 filter.

i would be interested in peoples thoughts and advice on this type of channa

what should i lookout for when picking them up etc

(i cant wate to pick them up)!:):)

Hi,great pickup,in general, look for good health, control the temperture of the holding tank, get informed on what they have been fed and what they are currently eating!

thanks, has anyone got any picks of a full grown one?

i will post pick when i pick them up!

i will get the guy to email me some photos of them for you all to see.

Nice find, I have a pair myself, there’s a post just a few down with pic's, They are pretty easy to care for as with any snakeheads, Sub tropical so don’t boost the temps to high, however they also don’t seem to like them to low unlike some other sub tropical that seem to thrive in the colder end of the spectrum I keep mine at 78-80, and that seems to keep them happy

, I found they stressed out easier then other snakeheads, didn’t like being shipped, and a bit timid while they settle in, they are JUMPERS e make sure you have the tank covered completely, they like the floating plant cover and several caves.

Mine tend to jump for food, They watch when I come in the room and can catch feeders before hitting the water, they LOVE shrimp, 2 days ago one jumped and grabbed my finger while i was opening the tank lol so watch for that!

I have pic’s a few spots down, I only have the pair but from what I’ve read they tend to be moody so with a group of 4 I’d suggest a lot of space, and keep a close eye on them

Nice find, I know they wernt easy to find here in canada,

Hi!
Aurantimaculata is a gorgeous species.
I have a pair and a lone ranger (A male I had to seperate from the pair)
If any of yours pair up, I advise removing the rest ASAP. When my pair formed the battles in the tank was horrendous to watch!

My guys have a summer temp at 23c and a winter temp of 20c.
Be aware they are also very prone to a nasty bacterial infection these guys.

Your tank sounds OK, just make sure there is nothing else in there.
They like gravel, mine tend to digg into it, sometimes carrying a mouthfull to the opposite side of the tank and spitting it everywhere!

Here is a pic of my seperated male.(I am trying to find a new home for)
He is still quite young at around 11-12"(I have personally seen these SHs reach over the suggested 16"):

Tokyogasmask great pic's as usual!, how old/big were your guy's when they paired up ? Also have you had any signs of agression between the 2? I was talking to a guy who had a pair, bonded even showed signs of courting when breeding season came around, and then he woke up one morning and male had been destroied by the female ...

and them being prown to a "nasty bacterial infection " was a good peice of advise, I think they "stress out" alot easier then others,

my pair were pretty well bonded when I first got them at a tiny 7"!
They only started showing courtship behavior at around the 12" mark.
Of the pair, the male is much much more aggresive than female.
