Thanks to a few knowledgable members my new channa have recently been id'd as gachua. The supplier has informed me they were ordered from India. I know some gachua are sub-tropical and some are tropical. if these were ordered from india then which category do these fall under?

thanks,

highs in the summer should be 22 ish lows in the winter 18

alrght, thanks. at the moment I am running a cheap style heater which isn't adjustable just keeps the temperature at 25. For now I will turn the heater off and see what temperature the water gets to. Anyone have a list of fish that would be compatible with this temperature?

a lot of native north american fish such as small sunfish of perch can be put in, weather loaches, common plecos, are also good with the temperatures. I live in BC and all of my snakehead tanks have no heaters in them so it should be good

thanks for the advice. my gachua are still a bit shy and spending alot of time hiding and relaxing on the bottom of the tank. i'm looking to find some active middle or top swimmers that will survive with my gachua and also liven up my tank. any suggestions for that?

nope, give them LOTS of cover and they will be active enough to the point that you won't need top swimmers. My channas all beg for food at the surface when i walk up to the tank even if they were sitting at the bottom resting

I cannot wait until my channa do this. I've heard gachua may be a little more skittish and shy then most snakeheads so maybe that is why it is taking quite some time. I have them in a pretty healthy environment with good amount of hiding places and always adding more. As for cover I attempted to use some silk plants as a form of cover. They didn't quite work but they are still adding cover to some degree. 2 of my channa seem more shy (I barely ever see them and they hide in the same places) while two of my channa seem to show themselves around me more and don't always run and hide when I approach the tank. (one of these two is my small channa which is only about 3.5" as opposed to the 4.5" the other three channa are. I actually managed to get this small channa to hand feed a piece of shrimp from my hand yesterday so it confuses me why he seems nervous and hiding alot of the time but is willing to come hand feed and doesn't mind being around my hand when I put it in the tank.
