First of all, I would like to know if my Channa is a Male or Female, someone can help me with this ?

Then, I'm almost buying other 2 Lucius, and I really wnat to breed this fish. What tank should I buy, what are the water parameters that should I keep them and what kind of plants, rocks, hidden spots they need ?

My Lucius (25 cm) is in a 500 L com tank, 28 - 29ºC - pH 6,2 - Amonia 0,01. (p. bass, oscar, gar and polys)

Help me with it...tks guys !!!

Beautiful fish.
I don't think that many people have bred these guys which is why you're not getting any responses. I've been keeping them for the past 2-3 years, but they're in a predator community so I never expected them to breed.
Hopefully Brucki will stop in and share some knowledge.

Tks...
I already saw some topics about other Snakeheads being breed...guess they act the same, tank full of plants, hidden spots, and not to much lights...
My BIG doubt is the sex of my fish ;s I could not found nothing about that...

All the way, thanks for your reply !

Hi,

Tks...
tank full of plants, hidden spots, and not to much lights...

thats correct !
I recognized lucia/lucius as a rather shy species, even iv they hjave plenty of hiding places, and the breeder I have mine friomk reported the same.
Lucia semms to be a very gentle snakehead towards its own species. I have still six (out of eight) in one tank, the biggest to could easily eat the smallest ones, but still they share the SAME hiding place, and all come out together for hunting , and they hunt in a group.

I think yours is a male, a little bit to much fed, but looks healthy; but this sexing is only 60:40 percent ! I'm really bnot sure, but tend to say this one is male. I would try to get more than just one or two others, because opf the difficulty of sexing them.
Putting a buig male and a big female channa together can be a way to get a pair, but it can go terribly wrong. It works sometimes but it failes very often, too.
I had luck with my asiatica (after the female killed ther first husband after the first breeding, she accepted a new male, but asiatica are easier to sex than lucia) nschacht from Germany had tghe same luck getting a pair out of two single fish and now has the first reported captive breeding of Channa pseudomarulia). But my lucia found the pair ouit of a group.

I will add some pictures soon.

Tks Brucki...so, now..I need buy a new tank and maybe other 4 Lucius...

What's the right temperature, pH and other parameters ?
I don't know if my Channa is fat or your seems to be a little 'thin', cause my Lucius doesn't eat to much, once my P. Bass eat almost everything when released into the tank....
Other Lucius I have saw here are also 'fat' like mine...hope mine is healthy ! =D

tks again !

Hi,

tmeperature is tropical, I have mine at 27-28°C. I think they prefer soft and slightly acidic waters. They come from rainforest ponds and streams, therefore thes parameters should be right.
