Was just wondering, does anybody have or has ever kept this species before?

Have heard many different various inputs/and replys on them... and would like to hear any more of your thoughts on them. All or any feedback would be greatly appreciated! TIA :)

pics are not mine btw, and were taken from the internet.

Have heard some say they are same as C. marulioides, and that C. melanoptera is only syn. name for C. marulioides? Possible sp. varient of C. marulia and/or C. marulioides??

ur thoughts on the relation of fish in pics. same species? different species? species varient? etc?

I think melanoptera is the old name. When i did my research everything pointed to it being a maruliodes. I use to have one but i sold it. They are very similar to the marulius in apperance. But the maruliodes gets longer and is found in india. I THINK. dont quote me on that. The one i had was a full of character. When i use to come up to the front of the takn he would come greet me. His eyes would turn from a dark brown colour to a bright yellow colour the closer to the tank i got.

i say they are all marulioides. except for the fifth pic in post #3. dont know what it is but it cant be a "regular" marulioides.

nice pics btw.

marulia are form india where as maruliodes is from asia.... there is also a subspecies ? or color variant of marulia in sri lanka ... small islands off the cost of the indian ocean... imo look better than inland marulia. Maybe this is melanoptera?

It is the Emperor Snakehead / Channa Marulioides. They are native here and called Toman Bunga, which means Flower Snakehead due to its body pattern.

It's not melanoptera, I don't even know when on earth they came up with that name, common name varies, it's always safe to use the scientific name. Their close relative, Channa Marulius or the Cobra Snakehead is native to Thailand and India. Not sure if they could be found in other parts of Asia like Indonesia etc.

It is the Cobra Snakehead / Channa Marulius or Marulia that grows longer than the Emperor Snakehead / Channa Marulioides. Record in india has stated it to have grown up to 6 feet long but there's no graphic evidence so far. I have contacted Snakehead.org to talk about the Cobra Snakehead, the difference within the species itself since I felt like it after observing many pictures...is there? So far it's still a grey area. But to make it clear here, it's the Marulioides, and as we know its relative is the Marulius, the Cobra Snakehead.
