i have recently got rid of my wyckii, he was a lovely fish but a bit boring. i have now been offered an 8" channa micropeltis, my tank is 7ft x 2.5ft high x 18 inches wide. how long will he be ok in my tank for as i have just recently moved house and i am getting round to having a 20ft x 18ft shed built with a tropical pond inside. any advice welcome and thanks in advance.

when you saying getting round to, how long do you mean?as in this year?
as long as you will be upgrading it then you should be ok, id imagine there are micro's out there in tank's that size you have probally for life, not good we know but being realistic, my lfs has a 3ft ish huge fat redtail catfish in a 5ft/15/18 tank and that's been there about a year+....

realisticly if you purchace at 8" i would say you have between 6 months to a year , some grow a lot faster than others . i would buy a couple of juvies at 2-3" personally and grow them up together , that should give you around a year until you will have to upgrade . or buy a small group grow out to get the best one/s for the upgrade and move the rest on .

cheers col
