Hello,Tudo...........

It is easy to check if it is a orientalis or a gachua/limbatus..............
orientalis has NO pelvic fins!

Well if it is a orientalis, you need a tank about 100cm x 40x 40cm (160 Litres) to keep a couple.
The maximum size is about 15 to 18cm...........
orientalis is adwarf snakehead.
Interesting:
They prefer insects more than fish!
The content of a stomch shows that they eat more than 84% of water insects and terrestric insects!

orientalis need softer water with a low ph range to feel well!
You can keep them in other water ,too, but I believe, that they will not start breeding in there.

Ch.orientalis is not as agressive as other species of snakeheads an is a good start for beginners!

They are mouthbreeders and feed eggs to their babies...........

Hope this helps!
Regards
Pascal

What sparks them to breed?

Hi..........

What you need, and this is very important,is soft acidic water with a ph below 7 !
If you are living on the countryside, you can use clean rainwater !

My orientalis,I have 2 varities from different locations (Bentota Ganga and Kottawa forest) start dancing when I change a little bit of water.
It is good, when they get colder water............not the same temperature as they have in their aquarium...........!

also it is good to feed them with insects...........

Thats it..........no secrets!

If you have a harmonizing couple it will be no problem to breed them!

Good night!
Pascal
