Hi all,

Read through the various forum stickies, however still have some questions in my mind, and will appreciate it greatly if fellow forum members could enlighten me.

Currently, I'm keeping a Golden Cobra, and was wondering if it'll be wise to attempt to try to pair it at this size. Also, with regards to pairing, read that most throw a few into a tank and hope for a pairing to occur. If i tried only 2 fishes, would it be unlikely to work.

Lastly, the one I currently have is about 8 inches, and I found another Golden Cobra about 6 inches, would the size difference be too much to overcome?

Trying to get some advice before I do anything, and thank all in advance who might take the time out to better inform me.

Thanks!

Welcome to the site!

Unfortunately pairing with just 2 fish will not work. Even if accurately sexed it will most likly result in a fight to the death.

You'll need 5-6 . The competition seems to be required for a female to except a mate.

A range from 6 to 8" is fine and they would still probably be young enough to pair . However if kept solo for any amount of time if makes them far less likly to except a mate .

I would try a new tank (or completely redecorate the current tank) as you introduce 4-5 more Auranti. You'll know pretty quickly if yours has been solo too long because it'll be VERY agressive toward the rest. If a pair does form that also becomes very obvious as the pair will claim a cave and the others will be viciously and relentlessly attacked .

I also noticed your in sinagapore . So before doing anything keep in mind that to pair them and keep the pair peacefully you will need to provide a prolonged winter rest period down toward 15c . Without it the pair will likly turn on each-other. With a Solo fish you may get away with warmer winter temps but for long term success even a solo Aurantimaculata will need a winter rest period of lower temperatures.

Lastly not to discourage you in any way but always remember that with pairing channa there are no guarantees . You may do everything right and still end up with a solo fish!

I hope that helps!

Hi, thanks so much for the warm welcome, as well as the valuable input you've provided. With all this info, probably would be safer to keep him (her?) solo then. Like her too much to risk anything (:

Once again, thanks for the quick reply!

Glad to help. Feel free to share some pics!
