Hey i am new to this site, I have a 7 Inch Channa pulchra coming on tuesday. I have a 200l tank set up ready with lots of caves/ plants. I have a large plec, Striped Raphael Catfish, a 6 inch crayfish and a convict cichlid in there. Do you think these would get eaten by the snakehead?

Thanks

I would not mix Channa with crayfish nor would I mix them with aggressive fish like Cichlids, my 6inch channa pulchra's are in a 120G 5foot tank with a 3inch Jaguar Cichlid that will not let them alown, im going to have to move the Jaguar out of the tank soon.

Ok thankyou :) The only one im now thinking of keeping with the pulchra is my plec? Or should i really be looking at completly alone, i didnt want him to be lonely lol but i also dont want him to look at my plec as food.

Because the channa pulchra is 7 inches i am not sure whether id be able to get another snakehead to live with him? I heard its best to do that when they are babies, im not sure how true this is. Wondering if he would like company or not, but i wouldnt know what would be suitable.

Thanks again

My pulchra is just over 7" now, ive had her since 3". Shes highly intelligent and lives with a 10" c.knife, a pair of 4" eyespot snakeheads and a trio of 6" bichirs and a L134 plec. Dont see any signs of aggression as yet, hope it lasts! I think its cos ive had her from young, and best kept single or a species tank.

Its hard getting a fish already grown >< But i love him already and hes not even here yet! I am going to wait and see how he is, I know he was living with a green terror before. If i were to add another snakehead, could it be any dwarf type or pulchra only? i'm guessing theyd have to be the same size as the one im getting.

Also does anyone hand feed their snakeheads? Is it safe to rummage the tank while they are in there? As im planning on getting alot more plants for the tank. Thanks for answering my questions its really helpfull :) I thought i was really clued up on snakeheads but i got so much more to learn

Im still learning, but I get a lot of useful info from forums and the guys at wharf aquatics.
Unlike my eyespots (theyre going in a 6footer soon) she loves hikari massivore which is a bonus, ive not tried hand feedin cos she seems a lot quicker than my hand but shes used to my arm in the tank no problems. A deep fine substrate would be good cos they like to burrow, ignore the homes you bought for them and make their own hole!

Enjoy your pulchra - theyre stunning. Note how they spend as much time watching you, as you do them.

He's arrived :D He is very social always swimming to see me. I have a concern though, there are orange markings along his side it looks as though scales are missing, but i am not sure. I havnt seen this on other snakeheads. Do you think its something to worry about? He only arrived a couple of hours ago, havnt put the lights on yet so i cant take a pic.

Thanks
