Channa sp assam tankmates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sp assam is a sub-tropical species and as such should not be kept with species from africa

if you are keeping your sp assam in tropical tank then it will not last long , they need at least six months of the year at 15-19deg , in the rest of the year temps can be allowed to raise to lower end tropical around 26deg , if these rules are not followed the assam will die of a bacterial infection within a year .

the best tankmate would be an assam of the following sex , if you must have another type of fish in with it , then sp assam will get along with most fish that are not too aggresive to stress the assam , as long as the tempreture reqs are taken into consideration. they genrally do not eat other fish

suitable fish would include any of the same to medium sized indian sub tropical fish

cheers col

I read about that thing of the temperature... but my assam has been living almost 2 years at 24ºC... and he never had any problem...

I just want the best for my fish so... i will decrease the temperature of my aquarium to 17ºC in the winter... But what fish will support that temperature? (indian sub tropical fish)

the best thing is...If you just keep a family of sp.assam in a tank without other fish species.

what are the diamensions of the tank ?

to be honest i would probably just put one male in there and two females , hopefully the male will chose one of the females and you would be left with a true pair. if you can get a good pic up we could probably tell you if yours is male or female.

actually your tank being at 24deg is not to bad , as that is lower end tropical higher end sub-tropical , but they do indeed benifit from a cooling winter period.

if adding other sp.assam you would need to plant quite heavy either plastic or real , but they do need space to get out of each other way.

as for sub-tropical indian fish , there are many , here is a list of some , this list is no where near compleate , there is not even any snakeheads on it

taken from aquariumwiki - note not all would make good tank mates or indeed good fish for a 20gal so some research on each fish would be needed
