so i went to my favorite LFS today and found a snakehead lookin species..they called it Neochanna apoda i am not sure if they are some kind of snakehead i looked online to research stuff about them but theres only few discussions..

I just wanted to know if anyone is familiar with this fish they said its a Brown Mudfish...being a mudfish its supposed tobe a bottom dweller but i dont think mine is cuz i havnt seen it yet

And we have a micropeltes around 7 inches and the Neo channa is around 8 inches theyre rubbin each other pickin fights is this normal cuz its a new fish or shud i sperate them together

Hi - have you any pictures? neochanna apoda at 8 inches is probablly fully grown and will eventually get eaten by the micro. Also neochanna are threatened in the wild therefore it is unusual to see them available in the aquatic trade. (they're habitat - is North New Zealand). You can learn more about there habitat here

wow thank you guys, its amazing that it's not a snakehead because it has every single characteristic of a snakehead. It's an air breather, has the same color scheme, exact same fin patterns, same movement, head is identical , very aggresive etc. When i placed it in witht he micropeltes they rubbed against eachother like old lost friends of a cat :) Back and forth they swam I thought they were about to mate and then the new fish would get lined up face to face as close as it could get and then a terriable fight would accure. Once locking mouths and shaking violently. Then back to getting along for awhile and then fighting again. I was really hoping they could learn to get along because it would have worked out much nicer in the snakehead tank(also have a splendid snakehead about 6 inches in there). I eventually had to move it to another tank because both fish were getting beat up. The splendid just layed low on the bottem well hid and was unharmed. Will i need to seperate the splendid from the micropeltes? They have grown up together and get a long very well. Thank you so much for the help and i will get some pictures up asap:)

Hi,
they look similar, cause they live in similar habitats. Things like this are often seen amongst animals.
