Channel Cat Looking a Little Sickly...

Hello all,

Got a fish that's making me a little nervous. He's a channel catfish I caught out of the river. I've had him for months, and he's been doing fine. But today I noticed that his top fin is ragged, and the two small fins on the bottom aren't looking good either. One is a bit ragged, and the other one is ragged AND reddish. The only thing I can think of is that the area under his rock might be getting a little tight for him. He never sits still, just wiggles back and forth under there, so I think maybe his fins are getting worn by contact. Does that sound right, or is it something else? I want to fix him up asap if it's something else. I've expanded the area under that rock to provide more room. He ate as usual tonight. He's about 3-4 inches long. I've got some pictures, but they are pretty bad - he's not very cooperative when it comes to sitting still...

Thanks folks. I truly hate it when one of my fish dies...

he's 3-4 inches only and you had him for months?
let him back in the river
catch another one =)
 
how big of a tank do u have him in. try aquarium salt. and if that dont work try meds. its not good that he is scraching bottom. i would also give him a bigger area.
 
just give him a lil bit of salt (1tablespoon to 5 gallons of water and raise the temp to about 82 F) and see how he is in a week
 
go the salt and if that dont work the go meds but u got to be careful on what u use like fishnthings said. u might want to send a pm to guppy he knows alot about this stuff good luck. my channels where doing same thing but now i always put salt in my tanks. ever water change and they got better and i non of my fish have ever gotten sick yet
