Hey guys i was just wondering exactly what I should do Here. I have an Albino Channel cat and a regular ol' blue spotted channel cat. I am purchasing a 140 gallon tank for their year and a half home. Maybe 2 years. The reg. one is about 4.5 to 5 inches but really thick, not fat but awkwardly bulky for his type of cat, and the albino is kinda slender. I need help on the set up and what i should do with it, the heaters i should buy and the filter. If any one has any brain storms Let me know! Thanks alot!:headbang2

Mine is 18" after 9 months.

You might be safe in a 140 for 2 years, just be carefull, these can actually keep on track with rtc in early growth.

Dude I got a Channel cat that only reached 7 inches after 4 months. I wouldnt exactly exaggerate the growth rate either. Everyone said the same thing about Largemouth Bass "Holy cow those things will be like 2 feets long by the 6 th month" My Largemouth bass is still 3 inches and only grew a freakin centimeter.

I actually trained my Channel Cat to eat Cichlid floating pellets and Algae discs. Its official actually, if I put in rosy red minnow feeders, he wont go anywhere near them and he wont chase them either. He dislikes feeders and likes hard food now:ROFL:

His best friend is also a Pleco!

My Channel Cat is so cute I cant wait till he gets bigger I wanna hand feed him pellets and pet him. By the way his name is Edward. :screwy:

You don't need any heaters in your tank room temp is ok! Filters, well big fish crap big!what else is there to say, the choice of filters is up to you just get the right size for your system.
I have LMB and channel cats and they do get quite large for the regular tank, so the bigger the better and they will grow fast depending on how often you water change.
Set-up is up to you depending what you like but if you want to go native then gravel, big rocks some branches and tall plants will do the trick, they like hiding places so make sure you give that to them also. Regular lighting is ok, not to bright.

I'm not exaggerating anything. I have been posting the growth rate in my thread catfish bonanza since I've had them. I never said that they will all grow like that, but I and several other members who have kept many channels have all expirienced this kind of growth. Just ask Johnptc his got to 3' in just 3 years. If I wanted to exaggerate growth rates I would go to planet catfish. I don't give inaccurate advice. I may be off by a month or so, but I haven't had him that long, and in the past month he's outgrown my rtc. The rtc had outgrown him and then he got this weird growth spurt and outgrew the rtc. Here's the recent pic.

That pic was 3 weeks ago and he's actually probably an inch bigger now, and much thicker. He eats more than any catfish you see in that picture above. Good luck, and hopefully your's will grow slower than mine. IMO if your catfish only grows like 2" in 6 months you're starving it.

actually if you look his pectoral fin spine is missing on his left fin. The jau tried to eat both of my channels that I had, but could only get the smaller one. Now this one is just as long as the jau, but the spine never grew back.
