So I recently added 8 channel cats about 2-3 inches long into my 75 gallon. I've never dealt with ich before but so far I've put the proper dose of medicine in the tank and I moved a heater into the tank to raise the temp to hasten the process.

Mainly I'm wondering how ich spreads, because I moved a heater from another tank, and I don't want to put that heater back in that tank if theres a possibility that ich could be on it. Any input is appreciated.

Clean the heater and let it sit for a couple weeks out of water.
As far as itch goes just keep the water clean and the will probably recover

Ich lives on any and all fish. It is kept in check by a healthy immune system. Kinda like staphylococcus bacteria in our throat. Stress causes immune system weakening which allows ich to break out of control.

Most usually pristine water and lack of stress is all that's needed for a fish to get the ich back under control.

You can wipe the glass-enclosed heater with hydrogen peroxide solution or dilute bleach, wash it with soap or sanitizer - you know the usual anti-bacterial (though ich is a parasite, not bacteria; regardless).
