I am creating this thread out of pure boredom..... I just wanted to air out in the open my sincere love for my Channel Cat.

He is currently 8 inches long with a big head and a funny face. He is awesome! He is the master of deception! He lays around still until a feeder swims by and then does the twitch and BOOM the fish is gone!:headbang2

He has an awesome personality! He just chills around on the left side of the tank. He chose his spot and he just sits there all day until he gets hungry again and then swims around , but always manages to go back to his spot. Its weird:screwy: Its almost like his base.

I also have a Largemouth Bass with him whose somewhere around 4 to 5 inches. They get along great! They've been together since they were both small. They are the only survivors of massive parasite attacks. They both seem to have strong immune systems. I tried to put a RTC in their and a week later it got the Ich and died. The two monsters were completely uneffected by the Ich.

In my personal opinion, I think Native fish are just much stronger than most other fish.

My Grass Pickerel got eaten by my Largemouth Bass or possibly the Channel Cat.

I say its the Channel Cat, because the Pickerel had a bad tendency of sleeping at the bottom of the tank at night and the Channel Cat runs through the bottom of the tank like a quarter back at night time.

I realy cant wait till my Channel Cat gets bigger, Im gonna pet him and try to hand feed him. He's still kind of shy now when he sees me coming. I think he killed my Common Pleco too. He didnt like the idea of the Pleco swimming by every few minutes and sucking on his back. I got home from work 2 days ago and saw the Pleco on one side of the tank laying upside down with damage wounds on his right side. I think the Channel Cat gave him a few head butts and took him out. I named my Channel Cat Edward. He looks like an Edward. My Largemouth Bass is called Billy Bass. I think deep down inside my Largemouth Bass is a Hillbilly trying to come out.

Well anyway if anyone else wants to express their deep love for their Channel Cats , well......LETS HEAR IT!:headbang2

I too love my channel catfish. He is the only survivor of the 3 channels I had. One was half eaten by my jau before he died, and the other was beaten to death by my black bullhead. This one escaped death by the jau and only has one missing fin to show for it. He's a gorgeous 20" long albino channel catfish. I rescued him when he was 2" and had serious fin and tail rot. I've had him for 10 or 11 months. As for natives being stronger. They are not stronger they can fight off ich, and parasites better because they are cooler water fish and they have become more immune over time because these are more active in cooler water than in warmer water. When you keep tropical fish at lower temps they become more prone to these illnesses. My channel is thriving in my 1100 gal heated indoor pond with 2 tsn, and 1 rtc.

My 3 grow out CCs just patrol for food. Nothing scares them and they will try to take the food out of any fishes mouth. My largest is about 14", with a missing barbel. If he smells something good, he is going to check it out. His favorite thing seems to be swimming into another fishes cave and thrashing about until the other fish takes off. Then he leaves.

I only have one complaint about my channel cat. He's the only catfish besides my limas that won't let me pet him!! I can even pet my tsn's

I loved my channel, he was my first fish, and the reason that I got into fish keeping. My roommate had a tank and I thought that it was a stupid idea to keep fish(wow, so naive) he told me to come along to the LFS and pick something out. I didn't see anything I liked until the guy at the store picked up a decoration and a 5" channel cat came swimming out.

I fell in love and took it home. They all made fun of me for getting a channel cat, but I think it is what got me into catfish in the first place. He would get so excited when I would feed him krill.

But he was a casualty of winter break last year, at about 10". I was gone for a month and let a roommate be in charge of feeding him. When I came home there was like 40 pieces of rotting krill in the tank, and the catfish was pale white, he only lasted another day even with the water changes.

But I'm bit with the catfish bug now and I keep adding more tanks, so it was a good learning experience for me.

I'm looking after my friends channel cat over the winter, and then it goes into the pond again.

Yeah Channel Cats are awesome fish, I am also a little upset at the fact that he gets spooked when he sees me. I am hoping I can someday pet him without spooking him. But I am not sure that will happen anytime soon. The Largemouth Bass on the other hand is a little brave beast. He charges at the glass when he sees me and follows me around. He knows no fear!:headbang2
