Got a juvi albino channel cat, what's the growth rate on these when there small got a larger one in my pond. And is the juvi ok in my indoor tank temp around 24 degrees, want to grow it out so it won't get eaten in the pond. Cheers.

Mine grew 1.5"-2" a month but he was also a brute(male). I don't know about females though.

Mine did about the same, altogether going from 5" to 1.5' and 5 lbs in one year. The fleshier the food, the faster they grow. It is the most farmed NA fish for a good reason: they put on 0.5 lb of body mass per 1 lb of (the right) feed!

Temp is fine. They are considered a temperate water fish but are highly adaptable and inhabit all of the southern states. Mine tolerate 82-83 F just fine, showing slight signs of discomfort at 85-86 F when my ponds start to overheat under the merciless Florida sun. But they still eat and behave ok. They start to prefer staying not in their hidey holes but where the water is slightly cooler.

Channels are not nearly as predatory as many other cats. I've combined 2.5'-3' channels with 1' channels before in a 4000 US gal pond without any problems. I don't believe they'd gone even after a 6" juvi, unless starved.

not much experience at sexing catfish, but i think mine is a male, got him almost a year ago and he has grown from 3 inches to thirteen while fed a healthy, high protein diet and kept in water that was 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit.

Probably female if it is only 13" after the first year. Male channels are often larger and have a similar body shape to that of a tadpole with a large head and thinner body
