I live in SW Ohio where the winters can get a bit cold. How deep does a pond need to be to winter over channel cats? The pond I am thinking of using is 6'Lx4'Wx3'D in ground. Nothing in there right now but bullfrogs. I am hooking up my pond filter next week and runs about 1600gph.

I want to put some smaller sized in there soon. Let them winter over and use them to stock our 1 acre pond and other ponds next spring. Is it possible?

I used to keep an albino channel cat that was about 2' 6in in a 1000 gallon pond with a bunch of big koi. The pond was only 3 feet at the deepest point. Just make sure there is a hole in the ice so gas can escape and the oxygen levels dont fall too far

im in columbus, my pond is above ground (a big fiberglass tub basically) and it is 2 1/2' deep
because the air can get under it, i get a 2-3" layer of ice on the bottom, and 5-6" of ice on the top, and the rest stays liquid

not sure if/how it would be different since you are further south, and how much its different because its in ground .... but i thought i would try to help a little
